What is Edwards Pumpkins?
EDWARDS PUMPKINS specializes in hand carving custom, fine art, highly realistic portraits on artificial pumpkins. Thanks to advancements in the Halloween sciences foam pumpkins can be used year after year or kept on permanent display with proper care.
Fueled by a life long love of art and Halloween, I am passionate about carving pumpkins that I take pride in. The kind of carves that make people stop in their tracks and remember deep in their bones that it’s spooky season. Carving pumpkins like this is a subtractive process. I use knives and rotary bits to carefully remove material to let out just the right amount of light from within to trick our brains into seeing realistic 3D portraiture. It is a lot like painting with of light with a bit of spooky magic.
Edwards Pumpkins are primarily carved on modified Funkins craft foam pumpkins for their organic shape and quality. These are made of a low density polyurethane and are safe to display both inside and out. Additional details about Funkins can be found on the FAQ page of their website.
Warning: Foam is flammable! Always keep them away from open flame and intense heat.

I work from photos to create modified and original compositions to use as my reference material. Using pins, knives, rotary bits, and other implements of poking and stabbing every carve is rich with detail that bring these subjects to life.

My favorite kind of commissions are ones that push me to become better at what I do. By recreating master works or carving classic photography, I challenge myself to learn new carving techniques to bring a sense of realism to my work. These are not printed in a factory, but carved by hand. My carves are imperfect and I think there is a beauty in that.

When you commission a carve from Edwards Pumpkins here is what you can expect of the process:
Initial email consultation - We discuss the subject/scope of the project and agree on size, price, and expected timeline of completion. Commissions are on a first come first serve basis. Once terms are agreed upon a 50% non-refundable deposit is require to lock in the timing of the carve and proceed with work.
Design and approval - I will create a composite design and submit it for approval. Once the design is approved no further revisions are possible.
The carve itself - I carve you a one of a kind Edwards Pumpkin that you can use year after year. Once the carve is complete the remaining balance is due. After the carve has been treated and photographed I pack it up and ship it out.
Pricing for commission work varies depending on time, size, and complexity. Larger pumpkins that take longer to carve are priced higher than smaller and more simplistic carves. Larger carves are also more expensive to ship. Quoted pricing for commissions include design, materials, treatment of the pumpkin, the carve itself, and shipping.
Please keep in mind that since I do not use stencils I cannot reproduce previous carves identically. Each Commission is a one of a kind work of Halloween fine art.
All commissions require a 50% down non-refundable deposit based on the agreed upon quote with the remaining balance due upon completion.
I ship to all US states. International shipping is available but is subject to additional costs and fees.
